the cause of insomnia lies in an upregulation of the 5ht2a receptor system in the brain at the post synaptic neurons, the solve the insomnia we can do two things: either take remeron or trazodone, which both antagonise the post synaptic 5ht2a receptor systems, therefore, reducing insomnia and arousal, or we can overstimulate the 5ht2a receptor system by SSRI type of drugs. Well this is a late reply and hope u already find something that works, but in case you havent i will give u some advice.insomnia, where no other primary casues exist, such as physical illness, or primary insomnia from birth, is always caused by depression, as far as there are no lifestyle sleep hygiene issues. They've benefited an awful lot of people, and hopefully they will you too. I'm not going to argue with you about WHY antidepressants work for so many people. Starting at half the dose is a good way to help manage side effects, but it will possibly delay the amount of time that it takes to see the benefits of the medication. You may only be willing to give it 4 weeks, but there is a chance that it could take 6-8 weeks, especially if you start at 10mg, half the normal therapeutic dose. You need to stay in touch with your doctor and work together on finding the right medication and dosage. They don't 'poop out' after a few weeks, either. It's normal to have side effects before you see the benefits of a medication, and it's also normal to need dosage adjustments. Celexa is an SSRI and therefore works in a different manner and only on serotonin. Remeron also has the parodoxical side effect of producing more drowsiness at lower doses, so perhaps it wasn't as effective for you for sleep as the dosage was raised. Remeron is a tetracyclic antidepressant, and it affects both norepinephrine and serotonin. However, as your body adjusts, you should be able to sleep better. Yes, in the early stages of treatment, and antidepressant can increase your anxiety a bit, which may initially make it harder to fall asleep. Lexapro (escitalopram) has worked very well for me with depression and anxiety, and consequently, sleep. I can't fall asleep, and then when I do, I wake up way too early. When I am falling into a depression, which for me usually comes along with anxiety, my sleep is a mess. Psychiatrist said I was Depressed then changed his mind and said it was all Anxiety, now believes it is all PsychologicalĪnd says I am thinking there is something wrong with me where there isn't.By the way I was originally assessedĪs Chronically Depressed,Agrophobia, and Social Anxiety.I still have a a bit of Agrophobia, but the Insomnia and Headaches is what am am really obsessed about and is ruining my life I'm not sure if meds are the real answer for me.Is there a magic sleeping pill?I think it's more to do with lifestyle and social factors, but always been a bit Anxious for no good reason.I don't know who to believe anymore. At one point my Previously my Doc wanted me to take Citalopram because I tend to worry aboout everything.I did try 20mg for about 2 weeks but seemed to make my Insomnia even worse,so I quit.Should I ?give it more time to work Is this likely to work?Been on Remeron,Ativan,Trazodone,Ambien,Lunesta. All of which didn't work or stopped working very quickly for Insomnia, and now been prescribed Seroquel by a shrink.I took it for a week but didn't really solve anything and got too paranoid reading about all the risky side effects.
